These seem to top every ‘best buy’ list at the moment, and that may well be fair if your priorities are sound quality or battery life. I bought these to aid working from home, to shut out the neighbour’s piano, or screaming kids, or DIY and allow me to concentrate in peace.I found them uncomfortable after about 15 minutes and when noise cancelling is active (which wasn’t as effective as I’d hoped – I could still hear plenty) there was a background hum/white noise unless I played music, which wasn’t what I wanted to do. I also found that noise cancelling created a feeling of pressure that became painful, and without playing music I could hear/feel a regular pulse as – I presume – the headphones monitored the external noise it was seeking to cancel.I looked at plenty of video reviews before buying, and now realise that all those reviews were buy men (who I’m guessing have bigger heads – I’m not petite but these were too big for mine) who spent more time talking about the bass and gesture controls, and not about whether you could comfortably wear these for hours at a time to concentrate on work. If that’s what you want these for, you may find them as disappointing as did.I have returned them.

I first bought a pair of these back in November 2019 when travelling to Cyprus despite the fact I have 2 other pairs of very good headphones ( one pair has a portable DAC) .I bought my first pair of the Sony headphones in Duty free where they were about 30 quid cheaper & on the recommendation of the 3 sales people in the shop who ALL said that they had a pair over all of the ones that they sold.I had intended to buy a pair of Bose with my second choice being B&O(expensive !)I was seriously impressed & I knew I could return them if I didn’t like them after week of pretty serious use.I ended up buying another pair for my wife for a birthday present ( who normally doesn’t do presents like this at ALL).She said about a week after getting them that she REALLY liked them & it was an excellent choice of present.I think that says it all.

One star rating because, although the headset pairs easily with Bluetooth, Windows 10 (brand new Surface 7) gives them the device name of LE_Wh-1000xM3 and does not recognise them as an audio device. They paired OK on Android and IOS but not windows 10. Therefore they are unusable on what I believe to be the latest version of Windows 10. I find I’m not unique and this seems not to be an uncommon problem, which seems to require re-installing an older version of Windows. Sony’s help files don’t deal with this at all and there is no help to be had there. I’ll have to send these back, hence the 1 star.

Sorry about the above, but i promise you, if you had these headphones on you’d be censoring too. I am sitting on a sofa 1.5metres away from a television that’s blasting out the news, and the sound is high because my living room faces a busy street, so there’s constant car traffic below. with these headphones on, all of that disappears completely. i am listening to the gentle sound of rain on a window pane from my music library (it helps me sleep) and if i close my eyes my brain fully believes it. both the noise cancellation and the sound quality are outstanding, with NC every bit as good as the Bose SoundComfort, which i had the pleasure to try for an extended period a while back (i didn’t buy them because too many people reported problems with build/quality control). the headphones have a now obligatory app for Android/iOS through which you can tweak the NC effect, apply equalisation, etc. Unexpectedly, the headset also has an NFC for lightning-quick and mess free pairing in addition to the standard Bluetooth, and the case contain a QR barcode to obtain the app without typing and searching. All in all, Sony put together a great product with top-notch features in a thoughtful package. Add to this the fact that they’re about £100 cheaper to buy here than from Sony’s own web site, and this becomes terrific value for money. It’s an amazing set of headphones which you won’t regret buying.
