With most Cameras the Exposure Metering is built in, so why should anyone want a seperate Light Meter. Well although your Camera can be very clever, there are times it can be outsmarted with tricky light conditions; i.e. where there are a lot of light colours or a lot of dark colours in a scene.Sometimes it’s nice to be able to wander around with a seperate LightMeter and see which exposures (Camera) settings will work. This Meter is very comprehensive in specification, it comes with 3 seperate covers for the “amorphous silicon light cell” (sensor that doesn’t need a battery), which allow the Meter to be used to measure Incident, Illuminance and Reflected light readings. To extend the Light Meter’s range further it comes also, with a Metal Slide (Slide H) that slides into a slot above the Sensor, (restricts light coming into the Meter) this allows the Light Meter to function in Very Bright Light, i.e. (such as Direct Sunshine). This Analogue Light Meter isn’t the cheapest Direct Reading Meter that Sekonic supply, and it doesn’t calculate Flash Exposures. But if you are looking for a well made Exposure Meter that doesn’t need Batteries and that should survive along with the rest of your Photography Kit, then I think it’s well worth checking out!

I have started shooting some film again and my medium format classic Rolleicords have no meter so I was having to use another slr camera to meter with. This was a pain so I did some research and ended up with this. Its a nicely made and well designed little tool, which fits neatly in the palm and that after a brief acquaintance is simplicity itself to use. It has given me good exposures and I will also use it for measuring contrast extremes when using digital for thoughtful landscape work…eg when using ND grad filters. Its great that it does not need batteries. It comes with a handy neck lanyard and decent pouch. Just be careful not to drop the extra lumidisc or high slide from the little pocket inside the pouch. It is open topped and they can fall out when the meter is pulled out for use.It does incident and reflected readings so is quite versatile, but it is not a flash meter.Highly recommended.

Simple to use and the fact that it needs no battery is a bonus.

I can’t recommend this light meter enough. The last light meter I’ll ever own.

I was advised the sekonic was a good modern replacement and after trying it in dark dingy …

A superb meter i first encountered at art college when a rep was selling them at cost to us film and photo students.Requires thoroughreading of the manual and takes awhile to get used to but is very well designed.
