I used it for landscape and Astro photography. It is small and light good autofocus, Quick delivery and a good price.very good lens for the price

First reaction to this lens is amazing… Both value for money and performance. Its so wide and distortion free its a fantastic lens to have access to in my kit and the idea that I’d be able to obtain it so cheaply is pretty mind blowing when you compare it to the cost of the average fe mount lens.

It gets my four stars for its light weight, its compactness and generally good optics across the range of apertures and minimal aberration across the 100deg vision. There are many reviews and comparisons on YouTube, so assess these yourself. I think if you are selling your photos then spend £1200 on really specced lenses, but this offering from Korea is great value, and produces great photos with a Sony Alpha mirrorless, producing 40mb raws etc. 18mm gets you close and wide, the fast f2.8 gives you plenty speed. Landscape, astro, architecture, candid reportage, are all within its remit. Ive even done video on a gimble.

The Samyang 18mm f2.8 FE is a simple, ultra lightweight ultra wide angle travel companion. It’s optical performance is astonishing for the price. It isn’t perfect, however it is on a par, or even better than, the Zeiss 18mm that I owned. Need I say more? I have awarded this lens 5 stars for it’s performance / price ratio. Nothing else comes close. Thoroughly recommended. Oh, and did I mention it weighs nothing.

Bought this lens as a light weight alternative to my Sony Zeiss 16-35mm F4 E mount lens,Lens is ultra light weight with relatively fast auto-focus so ideal for travels and with an aperture of f2.8 great for astro photography and low light. Light weight also helps with gimbal work. The build quality is not the best due to thin materials and unrefined edges but its currently the cheapest Full Frame ultra wide angle prime lens so cant really fault or compare to Loxia or Batis which have significantly better build but have a higher price tag.Overall i would recommend this lens also I think everyone could do with an ultra wide in their arsenal.

It took two goes, the first Samyang 18mm lens I received was soft (slightly out of focus) in the center but the second was near perfect. It has little or no apparent CAs depending on aperture and very good edge to excellent center sharpness. Focus seems quick and as positive as the Sony lenses I’ve used with my A7R II. It is, as other reviews have noted, very light but well made with a metal mount and fairly compact. I also own the 12mm f2.0 MF E mount, 24mm f2.8 FE and 35mm f2.8 FE, all are impressive and great value for money. It will be interesting to see what Samyang come up with in future….

Not as good as sony equivalent but still takes decent photos for not much money ,overall pretty good

Unless you want to spend G Master money this will be as good as you can get for a full frame wide angle prime. It’s super lightweight, compact and has a good level of sharpness. At F2.8 you can get some good shallow depth of field but don’t expect anything other than good performance, this won’t make you say wow like a very fast lense. Overall this is a really great option for a compact, wide lense for enthusiasts and amateurs
