nice images BUT the lens is very loose and if you look down or up the lens will zoom or pull away on its own!! beware

It was clear to me as soon as I opened the box that this was a good lens and testing it under various lighting conditions and settings showed that this was well made and sharp. It produces a lovely gentle bokeh and that renders it a super portrait lens as well as a great all rounder. So why only 4 stars? Well, if canon had included a lens hood and not been so mean as to try and get us to buy a canon one for £30+ (I bought a third party one for less than a tenner inc postage)then it would have been 5 stars.

I wrote a review previously but have decided to edit it. I bought this when I was a photography student. Wanted a versatile lens with both long range and macro capabilities with a wide range of aperture. This lens has been with me everywhere since. I have had it for 5 years now and it has served me without failure. In those 5 years, I dropped it down a Swiss mountain, had it attacked my some Thai monkeys, been hit by a rogue wave in Cornwall, and taken it through the jungles of Uganda. It still works to this day. It is tough, versatile and has great image quality. Yes, it has a bit of looseness and a bit of a jiggle, but it does not effect the quality of the image it takes. If I could afford it, I would buy another one in a heartbeat.

This lens was purchased for one reason … travelling. If I’m out for the day, specifically to take photographs, then this lens won’t be with me. However, for those times you want to take your camera as part of another activity, then what better than the flexibility of an 18-200mm lens? Of course, it doesn’t have the true quality of an ‘L’ lens or even some of the more expensive EFS lenses like my 17-55mm f2.8. But, if you are looking for a great ‘walkabout’ or travel lens, this one does the job very well. It is a little more noisy than its ultrasonic brothers and sisters when focussing, but again it completes the task efficiently. Other useful features are a lock for the zoom function, and being able to focus on a subject as close as 45cm, even at the 200mm setting. It has Canon’s remarkably good IS system, technically allowing 4 stops below the normal shutter speeds for sharp handheld shots. In summary, don’t expect the same quality of photograph as prime or ‘L’ zoom lenses will provide, but as an all-rounder it delivers great results.

A friend had one of these and reccommended it to me! Glad he did! This is a compact multi purpose lightweight lens, it goes with my cropped sensor SLR giving me the equivalent of a 29 – 320 zoom! Unless you need to go to extremes, this is a one lens fits all product, and as keeping the weight factor down, is important to me, it’s ideal! OK it’s not an “L” grade lens, but then I’m not an “L” grade photographer, just an amateur trying hard! It’s also good for close up shots, the only disappointment, for me, is that 1.4 and 2 times converters don’t fit, it would be brilliant if they did!Other people, far more experienced than me, will tell you all the technical ins and outs. The best thing I can tell you is that I’m WELL PLEASED with this lens!

Bon produit bon prix mais mauvais emballage pour l’envoi postal d’un objet aussi fragile. 🙁

  8. Daniel Raven

    Buon rapporto qualità prezzo perfetto

The camera lens arrived on time, with original packaging and documentation (despite the fact that it was a used item). I’ve only had a chance to quickly test it, but it functions exactly as advertised.

The first thing I did when I received this lens I compared it to the 18-135 that came with the camera as part of the package when I bought my 60D. I immediately noticed a difference in the image when out to the maximum. Since my purchase we went to Ecuador for a winter get-away and I used it almost exclusively. ( I also own an EF70-300mm f4-5.6 IS USM lens.) I am very impressed with the performance of this lens!!! It worked flawlessly producing amazing images of great quality!! It is now my go-to lens for everyday picture taking. I will probably have to sell the 18-135mm to make room in my camera bag! Thank you.
