Needed a lens to use for scenery but I ended up using this lens all the time. Great all rounder and excellent value for money.

Cannon Wide Angle Lens.

I’ve had this lens for around four years and it used to get a lot of use on my 10D as a standard walk around. While there may be better alternatives in this role on a crop sensor, I always intended going full frame so the attraction of this lens to me was the fact that it also makes a good wide zoom on this format, thus offering a logical upgrade path. Since getting the 5D it has been replaced as my general lens by the 24-105, but as planned it then stepped into its new role as a wide zoom and boy is it wide on full frame.Tough build, good IQ, lovely ring USM focus, versatility and a reasonable price made this a no brainer for me.

This is exactly what I was missing. I have a very modest collection of lenses and love a bargain so this is a big spend for me. I am very happy though. I have a 2nd hand full frame canon 5d and on it this lens is a superb super-wide angle. I also have a 550d and this lens becomes my absolute favourite walk around lens when mounted on this. The pictures I have taken so far with my 5d are better than I would have hoped, the colours, contrast and sharpness are sensational. The lens is quite light considering the excellent build quality, you know it is there but it’s not killing my arms or shoulders even when on my 5d. I don’t think I will need any other purchases for quite some time now for my camera (except maybe a nice thin filter to protect the glass). It seems some people may have received bad samples of this lens and this happened to me with some lenses in the past so I guess they are out there, however, all I can say is that I have received a cracker. I bought it straight through ClickElectronics. With the £60 cashback from Canon it works out about £500 (at this time)

I am a serious amateur photographer (landscape, architecture) and can thoroughly recommend this lens. Although cheap for an L series, there is nothing cheap about its performance: sharpness, saturation, etc., are all first-class, the build is really solid, autofocus very fast, lens rainproof when sealed with a suitable filter. Fairly weighty, but quite manageable, especially when balanced with a batterypack. Maximum aperture is f4, fine for general work, depends on your needs. If you have used kit lenses previously the difference will blow you away.
